Originally from California, Dr. Hashemi has lived throughout the country before settling in Charleston. He earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and his medical degree from Brown University.
Dr. Hashemi completed his psychiatry residency at Medical University of South Carolina, where he served as Chief Resident and received training in psychopharmacology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), couples therapy, DBT, and neuromodulation techniques including TMS and ECT.
He then completed fellowship training in addiction psychiatry through Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General, McLean, and Brigham & Women’s Hospitals. Dr. Hashemi is double board-certified in psychiatry and addiction psychiatry and currently serves as an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Hashemi has published peer-reviewed research and presented nationally on topics including anxiety, ADHD, cannabis use, and nicotine use. He is committed to providing evidence-based, personalized psychiatric care that aligns with each patient’s goals and values.
