Originally from California, Dr. Hashemi has lived throughout the country before settling in Charleston. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and his medical degree from Brown University.
Dr. Hashemi completed his psychiatry residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he developed expertise in medical management and received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), couples therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). He also trained in neuromodulation techniques, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), for treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders. During his final year of residency, he was honored to serve as Chief Resident.
Following residency, Dr. Hashemi completed fellowship training at Harvard Medical School (Massachusetts General, McLean, and Brigham & Women’s Hospitals) specializing in addiction psychiatry. He is double board-certified in both general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry.
Dr. Hashemi has published peer-reviewed manuscripts and presented at national conferences on a wide variety of psychiatric topics including anxiety, ADHD, cannabis use, and nicotine use. He has also reviewed submissions for leading national psychiatry journals.
